For Our Valued Patients with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Health Insurance

South Jersey Radiology Associates (SJRA) and Larchmont Medical Imaging are proud to be premier imaging providers trusted by the South Jersey and Philadelphia community for over 80 years.  It is with great disappointment that we share that, as of Monday, April 1st, SJRA and Larchmont will be out of network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.

We worked hard to reach an agreement with Horizon to protect your in-network access to imaging services provided by SJRA or Larchmont at costs up to 60% less than at hospitals. Horizon, however:

  • Has not increased our rates in 7 years for SJRA and 5 years for Larchmont. This is despite the continued increase in overall costs due to inflation experienced by our practices, similar to many other healthcare providers; and
  • Has actually asked us to take a 7% decrease in reimbursement for our services. This is untenable and will impede our ability to continue to provide the high quality of care you expect from South Jersey Radiology Associates and Larchmont Imaging.

We will continue to advocate for you, and we remain ready to engage with Horizon when they are ready to negotiate reasonably and in good faith.

What Does This Mean for You?

Beginning on April 1, 2024, patients using Horizon health insurance plans will be considered “out of network” at all SJRA and Larchmont facilities. As a result, Horizon patients will likely incur higher out-of-pocket costs for services at our facilities. Per New Jersey state law, patients who are undergoing an ongoing course of treatment for certain conditions are generally eligible to continue receiving care at SJRA and Larchmont facilities at in-network rates to ensure continuity of care.

We encourage you to contact Horizon to discuss the scope of your out-of-network coverage for imaging services.

Today, patients routinely choose SJRA and Larchmont for their imaging needs for the convenience we provide, including hours that work around busy schedules (weekends, early mornings, and nights), timely appointment scheduling, easy access to 16 locations across South Jersey and lower costs of care. Our team of dedicated, experienced, and trusted sub-specialized radiologists are why we have received a 98% patient satisfaction rate.

What Action Can You Take?

We encourage you to reach out to the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI), the regulatory agency that enforces the statutory and regulatory requirements for insurers who operate in the state of New Jersey. You can reach the DOBI Customer Inquiry and Response Center (CIRC) by calling their hotline at 1-800-446-7467 or you can file an online complaint, accessible at Consumer Complaint Form – NJ (naic.org).

We encourage you to reach out to Horizon by calling 800-355-2583 (BLUE) or the number on the back of your insurance card. Many patients who are passionate about continuing to receive their care at SJRA and Larchmont are calling, which is creating long hold times, but keep trying. You can also contact Horizon on their social media sites, and, if applicable, reach out to your HR teams to express your concern about not being able to see our practices for your care.
